Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Production and Extension
Prof. Mary Abukutsa-Onyango, PhD., EBS
The Research, Production and Extension (RPE) Division, co-ordinates research, production and extension activities which includes co-ordination of exhibitions, workshops and seminars; soliciting for research funds, and production and extension. The division also facilitates income generating activities, besides managing the bookshop and Jomo Kenyatta Academy.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mary Abukutsa-Onyango is the head of this division. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture, a Master of Science degree in Agronomy and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Horticulture from the University of Nairobi and University of London, respectively. Prof Abukutsa served in the public service in Kenya for a period of over 30 years where she worked in the Ministry of Agriculture between 1983 and 1991 before moving to serve in two public universities, Maseno University and Jomo Kenyatta university of Agriculture and Technology
She was once the District Horticultural Officer in Kisii, Officer in charge of cereal crops at the Ministry Headquarters, as the inspector of Horticultural produce for export cargo section of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and as a developer of dissemination leaflets at Agricultural information and Technology Centre.
She is a horticultural scientist, rural development advocate who has been actively involved in pro-poor and action research and university teaching for over twenty five (25) years.
