JKUAT Kabbadi Assassins Crowned National Champions

JKUAT Assassins have been crowned champions of the Kenya Kabaddi Premier League for the 2023/24 season. They secured the title in the Men’s category after defeating RDU KC with a score of 56-45 in a thrilling final at the Kasarani Indoors Arena. This victory marked the culmination of an exciting season that began on August 5, 2023.

The league featured 12 teams competing in a round-robin format, with each team playing against the others twice. Following the league stage, the top six teams, including Githurai Cheetahs, JKUAT Assassins, Black Falcons, UON Tigers, KU Hawks, and RDU KC, advanced to the playoffs.

In the playoffs, RDU KC secured a notable victory over the Black Falcons, while the UON Tigers defeated the KU Hawks. RDU KC continued their winning streak by overcoming the Githurai Cheetahs in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, JKUAT Assassins advanced to the final by defeating the UON Tigers.

The championship match was a fiercely contested encounter between JKUAT Assassins and RDU KC, with JKUAT Assassins emerging victorious and claiming the title.

Dr. Waweru Kamaku, the Director of Sports at JKUAT, lauded the team’s remarkable achievement, emphasizing the dedication and perseverance displayed by the players throughout the season. “This victory is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our athletes. They have showcased not only their skill but also their resilience in the face of formidable opponents,” Dr. Kamaku remarked.

Dr. Kamaku expressed pride in the Assassins’ performance, highlighting their determination to succeed. “JKUAT Assassins have demonstrated what it means to embody the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork,” Dr. Kamaku added. As the campus community celebrated their Kabaddi champions, Dr. Kamaku reiterated JKUAT’s commitment to supporting and promoting sports as an integral part of student life.
